Hanover Country Club is experiencing an early-season resurgence since naming Billy Casper Golf (BCG) as operator.
Despite declining membership numbers at country clubs statewide, Hanover has realized a 152-percent increase in membership year-over-year.
Much of the renaissance is rooted in BCG’s comprehensive plan to enhance golf course conditions and other activities. A limited-time-only waiver of initiation fee and two months dues for the first 50 new members has also proven popular.
Last week, the top two softball teams in TD Top-10 poll, Patrick Henry and Lee-Davis both suffered upset losses on the road.
On Monday, the #2 Confederates fell 1-0 at #4 Prince George. Two days later is was the #1 Patriots who suffered their first loss of the season when they were upset 3-2 at unranked Hanover.
Patrick Henry has another big non-district contest this Wednesday when they host #3 Dinwiddie in a 5:30 p.m. contest.

In a recent athletic award chapel, Mechanicsville’s Katie Mullens was one of several Cougar athletes awarded for their contributions to the sports program at Clearwater Christian College.
Katie received the MVP - Women’s Basketball. A senior general studies major, Katie is the daughter of Ken and Kathy Mullens of Mechanicsville and a graduate of Landmark Christian School in Richmond.
CCC is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA), Division II.
We would like to invite all future Patriots, ages 6-14 to attend our 2nd Annual Boys Basketball Skills Development Camp that will be taking place in August along with our girls’ program.
The camp takes place from 1-4 p.m. each day. The cost is $50 if pre-registered before Aug. 1 and $55 after Aug. 1. Siblings can be preregistered for $45 each. A camp t-shirt is included.

City rivalry will take a back seat to a collective cause when the baseball teams from Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond square off tonight at 6 at The Diamond. Coaches and players from both schools, in partnership with the VCU Massey Cancer Center, are teaming up to “Strike Out Cancer” in a show of support for longtime VCU coach Paul Keyes.
Keyes, a Hanover County resident, took a leave of absence April 11 to undergo treatment for cancer.
