With the Wonderful Pistachios 400 “One Last Race to Make The Chase” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race scheduled on Saturday, September 10, just a day before the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Richmond International Raceway has a patriotic pre-race ceremony planned.
The evening will be highlighted by Wounded Warriors saying the pledge, Danny Rodriguez, the singing NY police officer, singing God Bless America and the U.S. Army Infantry Division Band performing the National Anthem.

NASCAR driver Carl Edwards couldn’t have asked for a more properly suited birthday present. The driver of the #99 Aflac Ford had little time to celebrate his 32nd birthday last Monday after rain postponed Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen by a day. I had mixed emotions when I was invited to join the Carl Edwards media contingent on a trip to the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier. I’ve never enjoyed flying. In fact, I sometimes get downright nauseous at the thought and this would definitely not be a typical commercial flight. Instead it involved a landing and takeoff aboard an aircraft carrier.

Two weeks ago a group of NASCAR personalities converged on Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington D.C. for what has now become an annual visit. NASCAR President Mike Helton joined team owners Richard Childress and Jack Roush as well as Sprint Cup drivers Kurt Bush, David Ragan, Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth and others to visit wounded soldiers and their families.
