Saturday night looked to be an evening of promise for fans of two of NASCAR’s most beloved drivers, Denny Hamlin and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Hamlin came into the Crown Royal presents the Dan Lowry 400 attempting to do something that had only been done twice before. After winning the Lipton Iced Tea 250 on Friday night, Hamlin looked to join Harry Gant (1991) and Kevin Harvick (2006) by sweeping a weekend series at Richmond International Raceway.
Hamlin dreamed of getting a Cup win at RIR, Earnhardt dreamed of a win, period.
The heat was on during the final lap of the Lipton Iced Tea 250 Friday night at Richmond International Raceway. With eventual race winner Denny Hamlin pulling away from Kevin Harvick down the stretch, the battle for third between Kyle Busch and Steven Wallace turned out to be one that carried from the track to pit road afterward.
Coming out of turn two on the final lap, Wallace’s Atreus Homes & Communities car got the upper hand on Busch in the Hass Avocados From Mexico Toyota.
A tough call by crew chief Dave Rogers led to celebration for hometown favorite Denny Hamlin at Richmond International Raceway on Friday night in the Lipton Iced Tea 250 Nationwide race.
The caution flag flew in lap 229 when Derrick Cope and Eric McClure tangled in the front straight away. With 21 laps to go the question for all of the lead lap cars became pit for tires and risk track position or not take tires and risk them not holding out.

Hamlin takes pole for Crown Royal presents the Dan Lowry 400
