Some seventh and eighth grade students at Chickahominy Middle School have been named finalists in the World Series of Innovation, sponsored by Microsoft, for their concept EduHarmony, a website that matches student learning styles with tutor teaching styles.
The middle school team is competing against two high school teams for top honors in the “College and Career Readiness” category.
Popular vote is involved in the selection process for a winner. The group that receives the most votes between now and midnight on Nov. 18 will win.
According to the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship, 18 teams of students are being given the opportunity to pitch their own innovative business ideas to the public online.
Groups of at least five middle school students and their teachers or program leaders have chosen at least one of six innovation challenges. They have come up with a new, unique, innovative product or service to address that market niche. This year’s categories are: Mobile Game Design, Mobile App Design, Innovative Beverage, New Franchise Idea, Sustainable Style, and College and Career Readiness Products or Services.
With your vote, Chickahominy Middle School could win a classroom grant that will benefit students for several years. Sponsors also will provide other prizes to the winner.
